In my project I had to use a lot of critical thinking. Art isn't something that you can just look at and expect to understand. In order for somebody to really understand art you have to think about it and have an open mind. I personally experienced that while working with my mentor. I thought that art can only perceived as "art" if only it was painted or drawn or sculpted but after looking at some pieces and thinking critically, I realized that everything that has been made can be considered art. For example, a person responsible for creating something, intentionally made it the way it is to make it stand out from the rest, or they put a certain design on there to catch your eye, and so isn't that what art is? a creation from somebody's mind to look a certain way, just the same way an art piece in a museum does. that also challenged my creativity because I tried to understand the different point of views that people might have on art and that's how I stumbled upon this point of view I mentioned before that I know see through and again not to mention that this couldn't have been done without the people I worked with throughout this project. Its better to get a bunch of thoughts and ideas to get a better feel on peoples perspectives.
The thing I gained from this capstone project is knowledge. I used it to better understand the art realm that I want to go into to see if it's for me or not, so I think think personally I gained insight into my possible future career. socially, I feel like I can be out of my comfort zone a little bit more now because, art is all about guessing. there really is no right or wrong answer when talking about art but the thing is, for me, I don't like saying wrong things so I wouldn't want to speak up on art since I didn't know if people had the same thought. This project helped me break that hesitation and feel more confident on speaking on art. and finally, not to point out the obvious, but I learned a lot about art by research, I became intellectually smarter on art. researching all these things about ancient civilizations, map making, historical paintings and even working with my mentor brought new knowledge to me that I wouldn't have found out unless I went out go search for it.
All of the challenges that I faced throughout this project overcame itself with time. As time progressed, I felt more confident in myself. As I mentioned before, I was shy starting out and didn't want to be called out as being wrong but as time went on, I realized that art is a broad field where anything goes. There is no right or wrong answer only your thoughts and point of view. I think the key to overcoming my problems was to keep an open mind for all things so you get various views and you can make up what people believe or think.
Through this project, I think that when I was challenged, it brought on new ideas, a new light for me to see through, so I don't necessarily think that challenges are bad, they bring a good outcome but you need time to analyze your situation and sure enough you'll overcome them.
